Lodi NJ Assault by Auto AttorneysA Lodi NJ man was placed under arrest after he allegedly crashed his motor vehicle into a Jeep and caused serious injuries to a pregnant woman in Sparta, New Jersey.

According to officials, the suspect was behind the wheel of a Chevy Trailblazer and traveling at an excessive rate of speed on Route 15 in Sparta NJ when he tried to pass another car on the roadway. The suspect reportedly lost control of his car, which subsequently overturned onto a median and then slammed into a Jeep Liberty that was headed in the opposite direction on the road.

The head-on collision resulted in serious bodily injuries to the driver of the other vehicle, a 36-year-old woman who lives in Hamburg, NJ. Additionally, a 20-year-old passenger in the suspect’s vehicle also suffered injuries in the car accident.

Police officers soon arrived at the scene and spoke with the suspect. While talking to police, the suspect reportedly provided false statements about the events leading up to the auto accident.

Meanwhile, the injured pregnant woman was taken to a Morristown hospital and treated for her injuries. Thankfully, she is expected to survive and there did not appear to be any issues with her pregnancy.

The suspect, a 20-year-old Lodi NJ man, has been charged with multiple counts of assault by auto in connection with the motor vehicle accident. The suspect has also been charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly making the false statements to police.

Assault by auto is considered a fourth degree felony when the car accident results in serious bodily injury to another person. As a result, the suspect in this case could end up being sentenced to prison time if he is convicted on the most serious charges of fourth degree assault by auto.
