Ridgewood New Jersey police recently arrested an Elmwood Park NJ woman who was allegedly driving while intoxicated (DWI) when she crashed her car and then left the scene of the accident.
According to officials, the 21-year-old suspect was drunk while operating a motor vehicle on East Saddle River Road in Ridgewood, NJ. The accident occurred sometime around 7 p.m.
Immediately crashing her car, the suspect allegedly drove off without reporting the accident.
Law enforcement said that the suspect then tried to hide her car somewhere on Wall Street. Despite the suspect’s alleged attempt to conceal evidence of the accident, Ridgewood NJ police were able to locate the car not long after the collision.
The Ridgewood Police Department investigated the DUI accident and determined that the suspect was in the process of driving the car into a parking garage when the crash happened.
A short time later, police officers found the car. They were also able to locate the suspect and arrest her.
The suspect was charged with several offenses, including driving while intoxicated and DWI in a school zone. The suspect was also cited for a number of traffic offenses, including leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, following too closely, failure to exhibit documents, failure to install an interlock device, and failure to report an accident with injury.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted of drunk driving, she could face severe penalties. Even if this was the suspect’s first DWI offense, the penalties could include 30 days of jail time, a $500 fine, and suspension of her driver’s license for up to 1 year.
Sometime after she was placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was released from police custody. She will be required to appear in Ridgewood Municipal Court at a later date to answer the DWI charges.
