Hackensack NJ police recently arrested a local man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl.
According to officials, the 20-year-old suspect engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with the underage victim.
The victim’s mother learned of the alleged sexual misconduct when the girl revealed the details of multiple alleged sexual encounters with the suspect. The mother then called the Hackensack Police Department, which started an investigation into the suspect.
Hackensack NJ police and detectives with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit collaborated on the investigation and spoke with the alleged victim. During an interview with detectives, the victim reportedly revealed that she and the suspect engaged in sexual acts over an unspecified period of time. She also allegedly provided precise details of the sexual encounters.
The suspect was later arrested and charged with several sex offenses, including two counts of sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted of sexual assault, he would be subject to significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, sexual assault is a second degree criminal offense. A conviction on second degree sexual assault charges could result in a sentence of 5-10 years in NJ State Prison, as well as Megan’s Law sex offender registration requirements after the convicted offender is released from prison.
The suspect is currently being housed at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey on a $150,000 bail amount. The suspect was also ordered to have no contact with the victim in the case.
