A Ramsey New Jersey man was recently arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman at his apartment.
According to authorities, the 42-year-old suspect invited the 19-year-old victim back to his apartment, located in the Regency Park complex in Ramsey NJ, under the guise of playing video games. Once the two of them were at his apartment, the suspect allegedly gave the woman alcohol to get her drunk.
After the woman had an undisclosed number of drinks, the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The victim later alerted the Ramsey Police Department. She told police that the suspect got her drunk, tackled her, and then sexually assaulted her.
Ramsey NJ police investigated the allegations and determined that there was probable cause to arrest the suspect.
The suspect has been charged with sexual assault, as well as supplying alcoholic beverages to an underage person.
If the suspect is convicted on the most serious sex crime charges, he would be subject to severe criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, anyone who uses physical force to commit an act of sexual penetration can be charged with a second degree felony. A conviction on second degree sexual assault charges could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspect was transported to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ. He is being held at the correctional facility in lieu of $150,000 bail.
