The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office has asked for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who murdered a South Hackensack NJ businessman earlier this year.
The homicide is believed to have occurred in South Hackensack in April 2015. Police found the body of the 51-year-old victim was lying inside Clean Sweep Chimney Depot on Route 46 West in South Hackensack, New Jersey. When authorities discovered the body, it was surrounded by a pool of blood.
A couple of South Hackensack NJ police officers came across the victim’s body while they were conducting a welfare check in the neighborhood.
The victim was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center, but doctors could not save him. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Bergen County medical examiners performed an autopsy and determined that the victim died due to multiple gunshot wounds.
South Hackensack police are actively investigating the fatal shooting. Investigators conducted interviews with several witnesses who were near the scene of the shooting when it probably occurred. Moreover, police obtained video surveillance footage from the area. It is unclear if the footage has provided investigators with any leads in the case.
At this time, South Hackensack law enforcement has not identified a suspect in the killing.
Now police are asking for the public’s assistance in figuring out the identity of a suspect in the shooting.
If a suspect is eventually identified and apprehended, they would like face charges for murder. Under the New Jersey Criminal Code, murder is the most serious criminal offense. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, first degree murder charges are punishable by a potential sentence of life imprisonment, with a mandatory minimum term of incarceration of 30 years in NJ State Prison.
