A New York man has been accused of sexually abusing a young girl in Mahwah, NJ.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the 32-year-old suspect committed the sexual offenses several times against a minor girl while she was between the ages of six and seven.
Law enforcement first became aware of the sex crime allegations after the victim, now a teenager, told a therapist of the sexual abuse. The victim later talked to a caseworker with the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency and said that the suspect committed the sexual abuse on “multiple occasions.”
The Mahwah Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit then conducted a joint investigation into the sex offense allegations.
The suspect, who lives in Greenwood Lake, NY, was later placed under arrest and charged with several sexual offenses, including sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was transported to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey. He was being held at the correctional facility in lieu of a $100,000 bail amount.
