An Indiana man has been indicted on sexually assault charges stemming from alleged sex crimes against a teenage girl in Mahwah and Paramus, NJ.
The sex offenses are said to have occurred in December 2012. According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl who resided in Mahwah, New Jersey.
The suspect allegedly met the young victim in an online chat room that authorities have described as a “Russian Roulette” chat service, with users being randomly linked to each other.
After meeting the victim in the Internet chat room, the suspect made a 10-hour drive from Indiana to Bergen County, New Jersey.
Once the suspect arrived in New Jersey, he allegedly met the victim in person and then sexually assaulted her in Mahwah and Paramus, NJ.
The 32-year-old suspect, who hails from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was later placed under arrest by police in New Jersey. He was then charged with numerous crimes, including sexual assault, child endangerment, and hindering apprehension.
Now the suspect is due to stand trial on the criminal charges after being indicted by a Bergen County grand jury.
Law enforcement indicated that the suspect is a convicted sex offender with a prior conviction for sexual misconduct with a minor in Indiana.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspect was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey. He was being held at the jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.
