Police are attempting to figure out who caused a fatal hit-and-run accident in Teaneck, New Jersey.
According to Teaneck law enforcement, the accident happened around 6:45 p.m. The 59-year-old victim, who lived in Teaneck, was trying to walk across Cedar Lane at Garrison Avenue in Teaneck when he was struck by a passing vehicle.
Teaneck police officers responded to reports of the car crash and came across the victim lying on the pavement.
Emergency medical responders took the victim to Hackensack University Medical Center, where doctors attempted to save his life. Tragically, the victim was later pronounced dead as a result of significant bodily injuries.
Meanwhile, Teaneck NJ investigators interviewed witnesses at the scene of the accident and got a description of the suspect’s vehicle. According to Teaneck officials, the suspect was driving a large, black SUV. It is believed that the suspect’s vehicle may have sustained damage to the front area, including the passenger bumper and the hood of the car.
After the hit-and-run collision, the suspect allegedly fled the area by driving east on Cedar Lane.
If police are eventually able to identify and apprehend the suspect, the driver would likely face serious criminal charges for vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.
