Police arrested two men who allegedly robbed and kidnapped a cab driver in Ridgewood, NJ.
The kidnapping incident reportedly occurred around 3:00 a.m. on December 26, 2015. According to law enforcement, the suspects hailed a taxi in Paterson and told the driver to take them to Waldwick, New Jersey. When the taxi driver drove through Ridgewood, the suspects allegedly forced him to pull over on North Monroe Street.
As soon as the driver stopped the vehicle, the suspects allegedly assaulted and robbed him. One of the suspects then got behind the wheel of the taxi and took the vehicle, with the cab driver inside, to the NY State Thruway. At some point, the suspects allegedly tossed the victim out of the vehicle and left him on the side of the roadway.
The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the attack. He was later treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
Meanwhile, several different law enforcement agencies worked together to investigate the kidnapping incident. The investigating agencies included the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, the Mahwah Police Department, the Hawthorne Police Department, the Waldwick Police Department, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, NJ State Police, and New York State Police.
Police eventually linked the suspects to the kidnapping and arrested them.
The suspects have been charged with several crimes, including carjacking, kidnapping, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
