The car chase started around 10:41 a.m. in East Rutherford, NJ. An East Rutherford police officer was on patrol when he noticed a 1995 Honda Civic on the roadway. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that day.
The East Rutherford NJ patrol cop called in information about the stolen car and then turned on his lights and siren. When the police officer instructed the driver of the stolen vehicle to pull over, the driver allegedly ignored the instruction and sped up.
Carlstadt NJ police officers soon joined the pursuit, which went through East Rutherford, Rutherford, and Lyndhurst. When the driver got to Lyndhurst, he headed south on Orient Way and tried to make a left turn. While making the turn, the driver lost control of the car and had ended up pulling over near an Extra Space Storage building.
The three vehicle occupants exited the car and reportedly tried to make a run for it. Police officers quickly apprehended two of the suspects, while the third suspect was apprehended approximately 10 minutes later while hiding in a backyard on the 700 block of Teneyck Avenue in Lyndhurst, NJ.
The 21-year-old male suspect, who resides in North Bergen, New Jersey, was allegedly the driver of the stolen vehicle. He faces criminal charges for receiving stolen property, eluding police, and flight from arrest. Law enforcement said that the suspect is also wanted on a drug crime charge out of NY.
The other two suspects, a 19-year-old female and a 23-year-old female, both live in Brooklyn, New York. They face criminal charges for unlawful taking of means of conveyance and flight from arrest.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the three suspects were taken to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey. The male suspect was being held at the jail in lieu of $27,500 bail, while the two female suspects were each being held in lieu of $5K bail amounts.
