Paramus New Jersey police closed down a road while they investigated a hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian with serious injuries
The auto accident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Route 17 North at A & S Drive in Paramus, NJ. The victim, a 20-year-old woman from Paramus, was reportedly walking near the Toys “R” Us store located on Ridgewood Avenue when a motor vehicle sped past and struck her.
A passerby dialed 911 and notified the Paramus Police Department that someone had been hit by a car. When Paramus police officers arrived at the scene, they saw the victim lying on the road and having sustained significant physical injuries.
The victim was quickly transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where doctors provided medical treatment for her injuries. The victim was later listed in serious condition.
Paramus NJ police are actively investigating the hit-and-run car accident. Investigators talked to the victim, as well as witnesses at the scene, and learned that the suspect’s motor vehicle was probably a black Toyota SUV. Investigators think that the car may have sustained damage to the front right fender and the front right mirror.
If law enforcement can eventually identify and track down the suspect, it is likely that the driver would face criminal charges for leaving the scene of an accident. Although leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident is usually classified as a traffic offense, it can be elevated to a criminal charge when the offender knowingly leaves the scene of a crash that resulted in serious bodily injury to someone.
