Fort Lee NJ DWI Accident LawyersPolice in Fort Lee New Jersey are looking into a possible DWI accident that led to the death of an elderly man.

The fatal car accident occurred around 8:48 p.m. According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the 86-year-old victim was in the process of walking across Lemoine Avenue, near Whiteman Street, in Fort Lee when the suspect’s car crashed into him.

The suspect is a 22-year-old woman from Ewing, NJ. She was reportedly driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata when she fatally struck the victim in the roadway.

After the motor vehicle accident, the victim was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center. Tragically, doctors at the medical facility could not save the victim; he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Fort Lee Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit both investigated the fatal car accident. Investigators have already determined that the suspect may have been intoxicated at the time of the car accident.

The suspect faces multiple criminal charges, including vehicular manslaughter. She has also been cited for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and other traffic offenses that include reckless driving and operating a car with an open alcoholic beverage.

After being arrested and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Bergen County Jail Annex in Hackensack, New Jersey. She was initially being held at the jail in lieu of a $150,000 bail amount.
