A recent drunk driving case generated national media coverage and salacious headlines about an Englewood Cliffs NJ man who was arrested in Cliffside Park NJ after his four-year-old daughter called 911 to report that he had passed out in their car.
The alleged drunk driving incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 3. The child was inside her father’s car. At the time, the vehicle was parked on a street in Cliffside Park, NJ.
The young child was able to use her father’s cellphone to dial 911 and get in touch with the Cliffside Park Police Department. The child told a police dispatcher that her dad was in the driver’s seat and that he was not moving.
The girl could not tell the dispatcher where the car was parked, but Cliffside Park NJ police were able to use the cell phone signal to figure out the location of the motor vehicle.
When Cliffside Park cops to the scene, they reportedly found the adult suspect passed out while seated behind the wheel of the car. Moreover, police officers allegedly discovered the source of the problem: a half-full bottle of vodka inside the car.
The suspect is a 41-year-old man from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. He was placed under arrest at the scene and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). He was also issued citations for several traffic violations.
Thankfully, the girl was not harmed as a result of the alleged DWI incident. After New Jersey law enforcement arrested the suspect, the child was handed over the custody of a relative.
