Mahwah NJ police officers recently arrested two students at Ramapo College after they got into a violent altercation.
The fight occurred at the College Park Apartments, a dorm building at Ramapo College of New Jersey in Mahwah, New Jersey. One of the suspects is a 19-year-old Wyckoff man. He reportedly became upset when he noticed cigarette smoke flowing into his room. The Wyckoff student went outside the building and confronted the other suspects, who were reportedly smoking cigarettes.
The smokers included a 22-year-old college student and a 22-year-old man visiting from Virginia.
According to authorities, a “heated argument” ensued between the suspects, with the Wyckoff suspect going back inside his room, picking up a knife, and then walking outside once again to confront the other suspects. During a subsequent physical struggle, the Wyckoff suspect allegedly used the weapon to try to stab the other men.
Police officers later arrested the Wyckoff suspect and charged him with multiple criminal offenses, including aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
The other two suspects were also placed under arrest. They have been charged with a lesser offense of simple assault.
