An Uber driver who hails from Paterson New Jersey has been charged with sexual assault after he allegedly raped a woman in Wyckoff, NJ.
The suspect is a 31-year-old Paterson NJ man. He has been accused of sexually assaulting a female passenger around 2:00 a.m. in Wyckoff, New Jersey. According to law enforcement officials, the 27-year-old victim used an online app to arrange for an Uber ride to her house. When the Uber driver dropped her off at her Wyckoff residence, he allegedly attacked her.
Afterwards, the victim dialed 911 and contacted the Wyckoff Police Department. Wyckoff NJ cops soon arrived at the scene to investigate. Wyckoff investigators were able to identify the suspect by calling Uber. He was later placed under arrest and charged with multiple sex crimes, including sexual assault.
Not long after the criminal charges were filed against the suspect, Uber terminated the suspect’s employment. Additionally, the rideshare company is said to be assisting authorities with the investigation. A spokesperson for the company indicated that the driver “will no longer drive for Uber.”
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was sent to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey. He was being held at the jail in lieu of a $250,000 bail amount.
