Police in Fair Lawn NJ recently arrested a man accused of assaulting an acquaintance of his girlfriend. According to officials, the assault left the victim with severe physical injuries that necessitated emergency medical attention.
The attack reportedly occurred around 5:41 p.m. at a residence on Smith Avenue in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. The victim showed up at the house to pick up a female friend and was allegedly confronted by the suspect, who is said to be dating the woman. The suspect lives a few blocks away and was reportedly upset about the victim showing up.
The suspect allegedly shouted at the victim and then began to attack him. The assault left the victim with significant injuries to his face.
Someone at the residence dialed 911 to alert the Fair Lawn Police Department, which dispatched police officers and emergency medical crews to the scene. The victim was subsequently rushed to the emergency room at St. Joseph’s Hospital, where physicians treated him for his injuries. Afterwards, the victim was listed in critical condition.
Authorities later placed the 49-year-old suspect under arrest. He faces criminal charges for second degree aggravated assault. A conviction on the very serious charges could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
If the victim dies as a result of his injuries, the suspect could be charged with manslaughter or even murder.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was ordered held at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey. He was being held there on a $250,000 bail amount.
