Four Belleville NJ cops, and a civilian, were placed under arrest and charged with simple assault after they reportedly got into a bar fight.
The violent incident happened at a Bergen County bar a few weeks ago. According to law enforcement, the suspects were involved in a physical altercation with patrons at the bar. Bar security removed the suspects from the premises, but the fight reportedly continued outside the bar.
A witness dialed 911 and notified local police, which sent officers to the scene.
One person sustained injuries during the fight. The injured individual was later treated for their minor injuries at Hackensack University Medical Center.
Bergen County authorities became aware of the fight sometime later and started an investigation. Detectives with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigation Unit eventually determined that the suspects should be arrested and criminally charged. Investigators also found out that one of the suspects, a 32-year-old Belleville police officers, gave cops false information while being questioned on the night of the fight.
The other three Belleville cops who were placed under arrest include a 24-year-old man, a 28-year-old man, and a 39-year-old man. All four officers face criminal charges for simple assault, while one of the officers also faces charges for hindering apprehension.
The suspects are going to be required to make appearances at Bergen County Central Processing on December 14. While the charges against the suspects are pending, they will be suspended from their jobs with the Belleville Police Department.
