A former priest in Bergen County NJ faces criminal charges in Pennsylvania for allegedly distributing child pornography and possessing child pornography.
The sexual offense suspect is Kevin Gugliotta, a 54-year-old man who used to work as a priest at Immaculate Conception RC Church in Mahwah and at Holy Spirit RC Church in Union, New Jersey. The information about Gugliotta’s prior work as a priest in NJ comes from his LinkedIn page.
Detectives in Monroe County PA started an investigation into the suspect after getting information about child pornography being uploaded from his IP address to an online chat room. Investigators traced the file sharing to the suspect’s vacation home and later executed a search warrant at the house.
After seizing the suspect’s personal laptop and searching for files, law enforcement placed him under arrest. He was subsequently charged with several sex crimes, including 20 counts of disseminating child pornography and 20 counts of possessing child pornography.
Gugliotta recently made an appearance in a Pennsylvania court for an arraignment hearing. If Gugliotta does not reach a plea deal with PA prosecutors, it is very possible that he will head to trial on the very serious criminal charges.
In the meantime, the suspect is being held the Wayne County Prison on a massive $1 million bail amount.
