A Fair Lawn New Jersey man faces criminal charges after he was allegedly caught trying to lure an underage female.
The suspect is a 60-year-old man from Fair Lawn, New Jersey. According to Bergen County NJ prosecutors, the suspect sent several text messages to a 15-year-old girl and tried to get her to meet him and have sex.
In May 2015, Belleville New Jersey detectives opened an investigation into the suspect after the young victim came forward and said that an adult male sent her numerous sexually explicit text messages.
Belleville NJ police eventually identified the suspect as the possible culprit and set up an undercover sting operation, with a detective posing at the victim and exchanging text messages with the suspect. The undercover detective came from the New Jersey State Police Digital Technology Investigations Unit.
When the suspect allegedly tried to arrange an in-person meeting with the victim, police arrested him.
The suspect faces charges for several sexual offenses, including second degree luring of a minor and third degree showing obscene materials to a minor.
Since the suspect allegedly communicated with other potential victims, it is possible that more criminal charges could be filed against him at a later date.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was transported to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey. He was able to secure his release from police custody by posting a $100,000 bail amount.
