Hackensack New Jersey police are searching for a man who reportedly committed an armed robbery at a restaurant.
The suspect allegedly walked into the Hop Sing Restaurant located on Essex Street in Hackensack NJ around 11:50 p.m., approached a cashier, and flashed a handgun. The suspect then allegedly threatened to shoot the worker unless he handed over cash from the store register. According to the employee, the suspect said, “Give me the money” during the robbery.
After the suspect got between $100 and $150 in cash, he reportedly exited the restaurant and fled the area on foot. He was last seen by witnesses heading west on Essex Street.
Store employees dialed 911 and notified the Hackensack Police Department, which dispatched police officers to the restaurant.
Hackensack detectives are currently investigating the theft incident and attempting to determine the robber’s identity. The robber was described as a black man in his mid-30s.
If police are able to identify and arrest the suspect, he would probably be charged with crimes that include armed robbery, theft of movable property, and weapons offenses.
