Paramus New Jersey detectives recently arrested a man who allegedly shoplifted merchandise from the Macy’s in the Westfield Garden State Plaza. Police officers identified the suspect after being shown a post on Facebook.
The suspect is a 49-year-old man from Paramus, New Jersey. According to law enforcement, the suspect stole several expensive Tommy Hilfiger watches from the Macy’s located inside the GSP.
Detectives with the Paramus Police Department were called to the scene to investigate the shoplifting incident and looked at surveillance video images. However, it wasn’t until a Macy’s security guard saw the suspect allegedly selling the watches online that authorities were able to determine the suspect’s identity.
Paramus NJ detectives and officers with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office viewed the Facebook post and reportedly recognized the suspect from his photo.
When police officers arrested the suspect, they reportedly located stolen merchandise in his motor vehicle.
The suspect was arrested and charged with multiple counts of shoplifting, possession of burglary tools, and receiving stolen property. If he is ultimately convicted on the very serious theft crime charges, he could be subject to severe criminal penalties.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was moved to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey.
