Garfield Police Officers Save Unconscious Driver from Burning Car After He Reportedly Hit Several Parked Cars

The man was later identified by authorities as a 61-year-old resident of Clifton in Passaic County, New Jersey. According to law enforcement, the man was behind the wheel of a 2000 Ford Explorer and traveling on MacArthur Avenue in Garfield at 2:00 a.m. when he hit several parked cars. Garfield authorities indicated that the motorist struck 12 parked vehicles on a three-block stretch before the car finally came to a stop. Other motorists who witnessed the crash dialed 911 to contact the Garfield Police Department. Garfield police officers soon showed up at the scene of the accident and came across the man’s SUV in flames. Garfield Police Captain Darren Sucorowski issued a statement about the accident and said that the motorist’s SUV “had crashed into the rear of a parked vehicle and was on fire.”

Garfield police officers saw that the driver was slumped over behind the steering wheel and unconscious. They accessed the vehicle through the windows, opened a door, and pulled the driver to safety before the SUV filled with smoke. Garfield firefighters then put out the fire. The driver was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he received medical treatment for his injuries. No one else was injured in the auto accident.
